This year’s Santa Speedo Sprint 2010 in Albany, NY was a lot of fun. This nationwide event, started in Boston in 2000 by five intrepid men, is held every winter to raise money for charities. The Albany Santa Speedo Sprint is organized locally by the great folks at The Albany Society for the Advancement of Philanthropy. ASAP (photo above) is a non-profit “with the express purpose of encouraging others to do well by their fellow man. [...] It was started as a way to give back to the Albany area in a way that was enjoyable for all involved; to encourage philanthropy and have a good time while doing so”. And a good time we had. Profits go to the Albany Damien Center, a community center for individuals and families living with and affected by HIV/AIDS. You can still pledge or donate.

I took videos the better part of the day. There were even more photographers than last year and I figured they would cover all the good angles this event deserved. Here is the video below, click on “HD” to watch it in high-def. As much as I like the folks at Vimeo, you might as well catch this clip in a wider layout on YouTube, in HD.
This clip is a small tribute to the opening credit of one of my favorite show as of late, “Parks and Recreation” on NBC. Season 3 is coming soon, it’s never too late to worship Ron Swanson. The first 20 secs are pretty faithful to the frantic show opening. The rest of the clip is a simple linear montage, I have the feeling this is the sort of memories people who participated in this race would be looking for. This very catchy tune was composed for “Parks & Recreation” by Gaby Moreno and Vincent Jones.
*BAM* there goes Santa… If there was a kid in the car, he is now traumatized for life.
To infinity and beyond! On the right, chicks dig it. See what I just did here? Sorry.
“Reluctantly crouched at the starting line. Engines pumping and thumping in time”. Jim Larson, one of the organizers above, always dashing in pink.
It would not be a Santa Speedo Sprint without Green Man and Erin in the Gingerbread Man. If you are asking, the answer is yes, she is in a Speedo inside.
Here is the video of the Santa Speedo Sprint 2009. In 2009 ASAP helped raise over $15,000 to support the Albany Damien Center.
Is this Seth Green as Naked Cowboy? Unfortunately the bottom of this photo is left to the imagination, but his nipple is so dangerous it must be covered.
This was another success for ASAP, the ASAP Daisies, and the many community groups raising funds in Albany. Everything went pretty smoothly and the weather was beautiful, a sunny Saturday miraculously lodged between a frigid Friday and torrents of rain on Sunday. It seems we are on our way to raise more than $20,000 this year. Great work, people!
A lot of people had cameras that day, even more than last year. That’s good news. All Over Albany has a great series of photos of the sprint.
Albany Tim brought his trusty Canon 5DMII as well, check his pictures on Flickr:
It was MIKECNY’s first Santa Speedo, and he had a good time too:
Flickr user tenacioustij took us by surprise when he published a series of photos… of photographers taking pictures. Check his “A View While Running” photoset for more:
