“Wish You Were Here” at the NYS Museum

This NYS Museum in Albany features a new exhibit entitled “Not Just Another Pretty Place: The Landscape of New York”. I recommend you check it out. The installation, on display from September 2010  to March 2011, explores the many ways the landscape of New York State has been recorded, romanticized, utilized, and imagined. It presents over 100 landscape scenes from the museum's own collections. One unique aspect of this exhibit is that you can be part of it, in a ... Continue Reading

LarkFEST 2010

This is the time, this is the place, LarkFEST 2010, “New York's Largest One Day Street Festival” is on. Two stages of live music and entertainments including visual arts, music, poetry, magic acts, dancing and food. 80,000 people were expected to attend this year; while I can't confirm this number, Lark Street felt as packed as ever (update: it was 70,000). Center Square neighbors, including myself, know the drill. Either leave Albany for the day, or embrace the crowd, the ... Continue Reading

Warrior Dash Northeast 2010

It's the summer that keeps on giving. If you like mud, face paintings, mud, tire jumps, mud, cold water and more mud, there wasn't any better place to be than the Warrior Dash Northeast 2010 this weekend. Hundreds of people flocked to Windham, NY to brave the 13 obstacles laid out on this 3.23 mile course. Early birds got a chance to start at 9AM and be the first to face the dreaded mud pit. The ski resort chewed no ... Continue Reading

Saratoga Wine & Food and Fall Ferrari Festival 2010

Thanks to Nippertown, I won 2 tickets for the Saratoga Wine & Food and Fall Ferrari Festival at SPAC last Saturday. The Festival, presented in partnership with the Italian Trade Commission  and the Saratoga Automobile Museum, offered three days of events showcasing fine wines, food and luxury automobiles. My friend Mikey and I spent an hour taking pictures of the many Ferrari's and Alfa Romeo's, then traded our cameras for an assortment of forks and toothpicks. I savored the samples ... SunKiss Balloon Festival 2010

When did I become a sucker for hot air balloons? I didn't really know until now, but I'm suspecting a case of balloonitis. I had a great time taking pictures of the Moon Glow a few months ago in Cambridge, NY; these are still some of my favorite photos this year actually. I've been keeping an eye on festivals in the area since then, looking for more balloon on balloon action. When I heard about the SunKiss Balloon Festival in ... Continue Reading

Schaghticoke Fair

You spin me right round, baby, right round like a rec... OK I'm done now, sorry. A few days ago I drove to the Schaghticoke Fair, armed with my 2.5 tons tripod, a wide angle lens and an appetite for cider donuts. Shiny colors spinning all around just call for long exposure photos, don't they? This is one of these fun little exercises a photographer owes himself to try once, I definitely recommend it, each photo turns out to be ... Continue Reading
